The Background

Black or White?

Our story takes place on a platform floating in the middle of nowhere. In order to have the illusion of an endless space we thought of having either a completely white or completely black background. In the first versions of the story we imagined a white space but after a few tests with set, dummy puppet. threads and light we preferred the black background. Especially the contrast between the texture of the threads and the black looked really nice.

Now that we had choose color, we had to decide the material of which the background will be made. There weren't a lot of options as the background had to be really big and not reflect light.

When we planned to make the background white, we thought of using the thin wood " melamina " but as we decided to have a black background we the best solution was to put black cloth around the whole set and on the floor.
