Puppet evolution

The new version of the puppet was made after taking into consideration the conclusions we had with the tests done in the set:

1 - Arms needed to be shorter

The initial design of the puppet had long legs and long arms, but after seeing the tests, we realized that the long arms made the puppets actions look awkward, hence we decided to reduce the length pf the arms.

2 - There needs to be more colour!

The colour scheme selected for the puppet was essentially shades of grey, but when we tried it on the set we realized that with the set also being grey, the whole thing looked really monochromatic. Thus the decision to add colour to the puppet was made. We zeroed in on an unsaturated shade of yellow as we thought the contrast worked well.

As our character loses her threads from her body when she climbs higher, we needed to show the evolution of her body. Keeping in mind that it would be terribly difficult to show these changes on one puppet, we decided to make 3 different stages of the puppet´s body as she loses threads. Also, as we weren´t using a kinetic armature for our puppet, we were sure that if we used just one puppet, it would be broken within the first week. For now let´s call them

1 - Full puppet

2 - Half empty puppet

3 - Empty puppet (not entirely)

The wire nets that we made earlier would be incorporated within the body of the puppet to show the ´ínside´ of her body.

The full puppet was mostly made with shades of grey and a few strings of yellow thread on the outside. the idea was to show that as the outer layer is lost, more yellow colour (which is on the inside) is revealed. Thus the half empty puppet had more yellow than the full puppet and the almost fully empty puppet had the most amount of yellow threads.

However a lot of questions were answered along the way and the design of face and body developed during the construction process.
